Educators in the Workplace

This unique workshop, offered through a collaboration between local economic developers (Opportunity2 ) and Indian Hills Community College, provides educators with tools to assure that K-12 students are being taught the essential knowledge and skills as well as guidance to prepare them for the workplace of today and tomorrow. Participants will gain exposure to diverse workplaces in the region, meet industry leaders, and develop an understanding of current and future workforce trends and job-seeking skills needed.   As a participant, you will experience four days of tours and presentations at area businesses and industries, focusing on the future content of technology and the needs of the changing workforce.  K-12 teachers, counselors and administrators are encouraged to attend. 

Each day will be from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  

  • Begins at Indian Hills Community College. More information will be sent to participants.
  • Registration deadline is May 28 for the first session or June 11 for the second session or July 2 for the third session or until the workshops are filled. Minimum number to hold the workshop is 15 and the maximum is 30.
  • Cost is $120 and includes two units of AEA Recertification Credit. Lunch and materials are included in the fee.
  • Closed-toe shoes and casual business attire required.

Opportunity Squared is a regional economic development partnership comprised of Albia Industrial Development Corp., Alliant Energy, Area 15 Regional Planning Corp., Appanoose County Economic Development, Davis County Economic Development Corp., Fairfield Economic Development Assoc., Indian Hills Community College, Mahaska County Ag & Rural Development, Marion County Development Consortium, MidAmerican Energy, Northeast Missouri Power, Ottumwa Economic Development Corp., and Sigourney Area Economic Development Corporation.

Once you get into the form you can choose the date you want to attend. After the AEA goes live with their new system, they will contact you and let you know you need to officially register and pay for the course.
