COVID-19 Updates (Residence Life)

August 18, 2020 update

At this time IHCC administration and Residence Life continues to work on safety protocols and procedures. Our goal is to keep our students, staff, and community safe. Below are protocols that have been put in place for 2020-21 Residence Life. We will be offering additional move in days to help limit the amount of people who are in each building.

  • As we have neared move in, some changes have been made to room assignments.  Our goal has been to pair up individuals who will be spending a lot of time together, whether that will be through an academic program and/or athletic program.  We feel this is the safest way to place students this year according to guidance we have received from local health officials.  Moves requests will not be permitted as we enter the 2020-21 academic year.
  • Students are asked to pack lighter than normal, so cleaning is easier for them.
  • Students will be allowed one person to help them move into their room.
  • Residence Life staff will be available on move in days to provide room keys and answer questions, but will not be available to assist students with moving items into their rooms. There will be carts available for moving items into residents room.
  • Masks are required at all times with the exception of their room. Students will receive a mask that will be in their room on move in day. Please bring additional masks as well.
  • No guests will be permitted to visit the residence halls during the academic year.
  • Residents are not permitted to be in other rooms aside from their own.
  • Common areas/Lounges have been closed and students are not allowed to congregate.
  • Due to the serious nature of COVID-19, any students who violate any of the above protocols will face disciplinary actions including up to removal from the residence halls for the 2020-21 academic year.
  • One of the residence halls has been closed for quarantine purposes. If a student becomes positive or has had direct contact with a positive person, they will be moved to a room in Wapello Hall for quarantine. During quarantine, they cannot leave their rooms and meals will be delivered to them by professional residence life staff.
  • We are working with a local physician who can determine if a student meets the requirements to be tested. This physician will also administer the tests if needed.
  • If you are feeling ill the day of move in and/or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, have tested positive for COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the past 14 days, please do not attend move in day on campus.  If any of these are the case, we can work to move you in at a later date. Please contact [email protected] to set that up.

Move- In Information:

  • Move in date for first year residents will be Saturday, August 29th and move in date for second year students will be Sunday, August 30th.
    • Students with last name beginning with the letters A through M will be expected to move in between 9am and 12pm.
    • Students with last name beginning with the letters N through Z will be expected to move in between 1pm and 4pm.
  • The Bennett Student Services Center will be open from 12pm to 4pm both on Saturday and Sunday.  Bennett houses the bookstore, financial aid, admissions and the registrar’s office.  You are also encouraged to pick up your college ID that day as well.

As a reminder, this is a fluid situation and things will continue to change as we get guidance from college administration and the CDC. We will continue to update this page as new things develop. Students are also reminded to check their IHCC Student Webmail often for updates. We appreciate your patience with us as we navigate this unprecedented time.

March 31, 2020 update

Indian Hills Community College will observe the regularly scheduled Spring Break April 6-9, 2020.

On April 13, classes will resume in the recently developed alternative formats (online, zoom, simulation) established by each faculty member.

Classes that are meeting in a completely virtual environment will finish the Spring Term in that format. Students must follow the instructions given by the faculty member for each class.

Students in classes which contain lab and clinical components will receive information about those labs and clinicals from their instructors for each class. Some labs may resume in a face-to-face format beginning on May 4. Students must follow the instructions given by the faculty member for each class.

Students who completed a SPECIAL STAY REQUEST (COVID-19 RESPONSE) due to on-campus lab requirements resuming on April 13, 2020 and are still living in the residence hall can begin the checkout process immediately.  Students must complete the checkout process by 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 5.

Students who completed a SPECIAL STAY REQUEST (COVID-19 RESPONSE) due to on-campus lab requirements resuming on April 13, 2020, but did not complete the checkout process should plan to return to campus to check out of their residence hall between May 1 and May 8, 2020.

Students who completed a SPECIAL STAY REQUEST (COVID-19 RESPONSE) for reasons other than on-campus lab requirements, may be granted permission to remain in their residence hall.  The Student Development Office will work with each student on a case-by-case basis.

Continue to follow Indian Hills’ response to COVID-19 on the Indian Hills social media channels as well as the college’s COVID-19 website.
