About 45 miles southwest of Ottumwa, the Indian Hills Community College Centerville Campus is in the final stages of a major construction and remodeling project. This smaller community is home to 216 students, as well as the baseball, sports shooting, and wrestling teams.
Walking Tour
The IHCC campus in Centerville centers around the Irma W. Winslow Education Center,
which supports both general arts and sciences programming as well as advanced technology
programs. The campus is designed for easy navigation, with residence halls, classrooms,
and parking all conveniently located within a short walking distance.
The dining center is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering plenty of tables
perfect for dining with friends and classmates. It’s also a great spot to relax or
prep for a test.
Traxler Hall, opened in 2021, provides apartment-style living. It bears the name of
Bob Traxler, a dedicated IHCC volunteer. All apartments feature air conditioning,
wireless internet, and complimentary laundry facilities.
Cooper Creek Hall, Centerville’s second residence hall, provides double-occupancy
rooms in a classic dorm style. It was constructed in 2001. The hall is coed, although
individual rooms are not. You have the option to choose a roommate or let us match
you with the best fit!
The IHCC Centerville includes a greenhouse on campus, a great addition for the Agriculture
Agronomy program and used for several ag classes for horticulture, greenhouse management,
and soil management.
The Multi-Purpose Building is home to the Indian Hills baseball program and also hosts
wrestling matches. The baseball team has indoor batting cages and indoor mounds to
use during the winter months. With the athletic turf in the building, it has become
one of the nicest indoor facilities in junior college baseball. Wrestlers, baseball
players, and other students share the building's weight room.
Pat Daugherty Field is the home of the Warrior baseball team. The complex has seen
significant upgrades recently, and it is now one of the top facilities in the Midwest.
Living on Campus
A sunny fall afternoon on campus means food and games—specifically, a picnic and Cornhole
Tournament.
Campus clubs participate in annual softball games. It’s a friendly challenge, but
the Construction Crew will let you know it has bragging rights after beating the Ag
Club.
Each year the Centerville campus holds the annual casino night! It’s an opportunity
to try your luck at poker, roll the dice at the tables, and hang out with fellow students.
You can learn something and still have fun, right? The Science Club has great activities
like a fall nature hike at Sharon Bluffs State Park, which is about five miles from
Centerville.
IHCC students get involved in the community of Centerville. IHCC sports teams and
clubs paint windows downtown or even help cook pancakes on Pancake Day.
Students in need of food, laundry detergent or personal hygiene products are welcome
to shop Wally’s Mini-Market. Wally’s Market is free to students and the entire Centerville
community works to keep it fully stocked.
Study Spaces
If you need to study for a test or quiz before class stop into the Jan Winslow Library
and Success Cetner. It is a great place to take one last look at your notes. Good
luck!
IHCC professors make time if their students need extra help. This is Professor Babbit’s
office and an impromptu study session—there's room for one more, we think. #smallcollegesaregreat
See your project on the big screen! Whether you’re working with others on a project
or practicing for a presentation, use one of the larger monitors in an IHCC classroom.
Find a great study spot in the campus library! The second floor library has a lot
of options with great natural lighting while the cafeteria is located on the first
floor.
Agricultural Studies & Construction Technology
How do you learn to operate a new piece of farm machinery? The safest way is to start
in a simulation lab. Here, Ag Club students get hands-on training on a sprayer simulator.
This is not a simulation! Students in the Animal Science, A.A.S. program work on commercial
livestock production, learning theory and practicing classroom concepts by managing
a cow/calf herd.
Studying Agronomy, Ag Education, or Animal Science? Brace yourself for a lot of hands-on
experiences—classrooms are just part of your vibrant curriculum!
You rarely see the "labs” of the Construction Technology students on campus. They
learn in the classroom, and then spend a lot of their time in the community.
The great thing about IHCC Construction Tech is that you have both college instructors
and the support of local companies. Each year, local contractors work alongside our
students to pour the foundation, install HVAC and wire the house for electricity.
Our Centerville Campus has a state-of-the-art simulation lab that offers hands-on
experience for all nursing students.
Welding students perfect their craft in the classroom using modern welding tools,
building the skills that will shape their future in the industry.
Industrial Maintenance students apply their knowledge in hands-on classrooms, preparing
to troubleshoot and maintain the machinery of tomorrow.
Sports
IHCC has been at the forefront of women’s wrestling, and it’s been thrilling to witness
their journey. The team achieved a remarkable four-peat, clinching the national championship
at the NJCAA Women’s Wrestling National Invitational for four consecutive years.
The IHCC men's wrestling team has always been ranked in the top 20 nationally. IHCC
is a well-known name in recruiting.
Sport shooting is a growing sport in Iowa and an unusual way to be a college athlete.
IHCC offers a co-ed sports shooting team that has fall and spring seasons. IHCC provides
ammunition, clay targets, and competition entry fees.
The IHCC baseball team won the NJCAA Region 11 championship for the 18th time in program
history. We got the trophy back where it belongs: at Pat Daughtery Field in Centerville.
End of season sports banquets draw together team members, families, coaches, and community
supporters.
