IHCC Memories: Margaret Woollums

Submitted by: Margaret Woollums, Ottumwa, Iowa

1. When did you work at Indian Hills?

I started working for Ottumwa Heights College as secretary to the President in 1966. When Indian Hills purchased the campus in 1979, I stayed on as an employee of IHCC.

2. In what departments did you work and what jobs did you have?

I worked in the same office, Arts and Sciences, throughout my 13 years with the Heights and 18 years with IHCC. I retired in 1997.

3. What are the names of some of your supervisors and co-workers?

When I started with Indian Hills, I worked as secretary for the Dean of Arts & Sciences, Dave Harris. He left to take a position with Ottumwa Regional Hospital. Bob Thomas was then hired as the Dean so I worked for him until he retired. Then Dana Grove was appointed Dean and I worked for him until I retired. Needless to say, working for three different deans was a challenge.

4. What are some good memories that you have of working at the college?

There was always a lot going on in the Arts & Sciences office. I scheduled the use of the auditorium and classrooms by outside groups, so I had a lot of contact with people in the community and I liked that. I, also, really enjoyed the faculty I worked with day in and day out, and, also, my office mates. Linda Mace was my last office mates and she I and are still good friends.

5. What other special memories of IHCC do you have to share with others?

Vercil and I have been going to Arizona for the winter, every year since I retired. I thoroughly enjoy retirement, but I still miss seeing the people I worked with.
