Jim Overturf, Employment Counselor
Jim Overturf has spent 42 years in education as a coach, teacher, and admission representative. He has guided 4 collegiate softball programs to a record of success and before moving to the college level he coached at 2 high schools. He is returning to Indian Hills as a part time Admission Representative for the Non-Traditional College Student.
Overturf coached softball the past 2 years at College of Southern Nevada in Henderson, Nevada, before retiring from the coaching career last May. He and his wife Tami decided to move back to Iowa in July. Before moving to Nevada, Overturf coached softball and taught classes at Indian Hills Community College for 7 years. He stepped away from coaching and started the Early Alert Program at Indian Hills. He worked at developing strong retention program so students would stay in school and finish their degrees.
Overturf spent most of his educational career coaching and teaching. He also spent time in the admission office at William Penn College and Kirkwood Community College along with his softball coaching duties. His admission duties was traveling to area high schools and contacting students by phone. He was also involved in the campus visitation days for both colleges. While working in admissions at Kirkwood, he was involved in developing the adult recruitment program before moving back to the classroom and teaching.
He believes in furthering your education. He knows what earning a college degree can do for individuals. It can help them achieve their dreams. He would like for everyone to understand that continuing their education is an investment in themselves and their future.
Overturf earned his BA degree from William Penn College and a MS degree from Iowa State University in Athletic Administration. He has been married for 45 years to his wife, Tami. They have two children, a son Erik and a daughter Jill. They have also been blessed with 5 grandchildren (Riley, Charlie, Avery, Easton, and Wrigley.)
Ranae Molkenthin, Associate Dean, Enrollment Services
Ranae Molkenthin has spent the past five years at Indian Hills Community College. She started her career at the college as an Academic Advisor helping students with classes, registration, career and academic advising before moving to the Admissions Department as a coordinator for recruitment and campus events. She has also worked in the Arts and Sciences Department as an Adjunct Instructor teaching the How to Be Successful in College course.
Before her start at Indian Hills, Ranae worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in both research and behavioral health. Throughout her Master’s Degree, she worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor at the VA. It was there that she found passion in helping others, specifically veterans with disabilities with a wide range of rehabilitation, employment, and academic services. After moving from Iowa City, Molkenthin worked at the Ottumwa Job Corps Center as a Career Counselor. She thoroughly enjoyed working with students work towards continuing their education and training.
Molkenthin believes in Education and the opportunities that it can provide. Utilizing work experience with education is an incredible asset. Her goal is to help people understand their worth especially through the pathways of education.
Molkenthin earned her Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Northern Iowa and a Master of Arts degree from The University of Iowa in Rehabilitation and Counselor Education. She has been married to her husband for eight years. They have two daughters and an eight year old black lab named Santo.
