The Fine Arts Department of Indian Hills Community College offers several exciting
excursions. In the past, we have explored Chicago, Minneapolis, Memphis, St. Louis,
Kansas City, and South Dakota among others, visiting historical landmarks and museums,
attending shows, and more!
Upcoming Trip - South Dakota Summer Adventure 2026
The South Dakota Summer Adventure will be June 24-27, 2026 and is only open to the
first 20 students! We will be going to Sioux Falls, Wall Drug, Badlands National
Park, Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, Crazy Horse Memorial, Indian Museum of North
America, Custer State Park, Historic Deadwood, and hike into Wind Cave National Park.
Course Credits
This is a 3-credit course: CLS 217 Cultural Excursion III: This course is designed to increase students' awareness
and knowledge of cultures different from their own. Students will travel to selected
regions within the US or to selected international locations in order to study and
experience the cultural and linguistic milieu of the region. Class lectures, discussions,
and/or projects will be related to the visit. CLS 217 F01 Cultural Excursion III
is the 6-week long course that is required with the trip. This a hybrid course so
you will go on the trip, but also complete pre-trip and post-trip assignments online.
Online course runs May 26-July 2, 2026.
Course Fee
The course fee covers admission fees, bus, hotel (double occupancy – extra fee for
single room) and limited meals. Tuition for credit will be the IHCC standard cost
for a 3 credit hour course. Please read the itinerary carefully.

Important Tour Information: This tour includes transportation and visits to remote areas and historic sites that
are not wheelchair accessible and do not meet modern accessibility standards. Participants
will encounter rough, uneven terrain and should be prepared for significant physical
activity, including steep inclines and stairs. Appropriate footwear and clothing
is necessary (closed toe shoes and a jacket for some activities). Additionally, as
we dine at independent local restaurants, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment or
accommodate severe food allergies. By booking, you acknowledge that you are physically
capable of participating in these conditions. You will also need a cell phone with
camera or digital camera to complete the assignments during the adventure.
