The Fine Arts Department of Indian Hills Community College offers several exciting
excursions throughout the year. In the past, we have explored Chicago, Minneapolis,
Memphis, and St. Louis, among others, visiting historical landmarks and museums, attending
shows, and more!
Be sure to reserve your spot on our next adventure!
Fine Arts Trip: Chicago // April 27-29, 2018
We invite you to travel with us to Chicago, Illinois. We have several events planned for your enjoyment.
Our adventure starts with a relaxing visit to the Lincoln Park Zoo on Friday. On Saturday we will visit the National Mexican Museum and attend a performance of “MacBeth” at the Shakespeare Theater on the Navy Pier. On Sunday, a visit to the Windy City is not complete without a stop at Millennium Park to see the Cloud Gate Sculpture (aka: the Bean). We will then go to the Art Institute of Chicago, an encyclopedic art museum where we will see works by Van Gogh, Picasso, and Grant Wood’s “American Gothic”. Finally, we will attend a special performance by the world famous Chicago Symphony conducted by John Williams, the composer of numerous film scores including “Star Wars”, “Jaws”, “Superman”, “E.T.”, “Indiana Jones”, and the “Harry Potter” series.
Fine Arts Trip: Memphis // July 19-22, 2018
We invite you to travel with us to Memphis, Tennessee. We have several events planned for your enjoyment.
Our adventure begins with a stop at the St. Louis Gateway Arch including the Old Courthouse followed by a fun meal at Lamberts Café “Home of the throwed rolls” in Sikeston, MO on our way to Memphis. Rooted in Southern history, in Memphis we will learn about slavery and the cotton merchants at The Cotton Museum and in the Victorian Village, including a tour of the Woodruff-Fontaine House. A cultural hub for the civil rights movement, we will visit the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was shot. We will have two special group dining experiences in Memphis, one for legendary BBQ at Charlie Vergo’s Rendezvous and one for Southern food at Uncle Lou’s Chicken, featured on the Food Channel. Memphis is known as the “home of the blues and birthplace of rock-n-roll” so we will visit the Rock N’ Soul Museum and Elvis Presley’s home, Graceland. No stop to Memphis would be complete without a stop at the Peabody Hotel to see the Peabody Ducks and a stop at the new Bass Pro Shops Memphis Pyramid. We will be staying right in the heart of the music district near the famous Beale Street so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to watch street performers, listen to live music, ride the trolley, and shop.
