Medical/Insurance Coding

This program prepares you to work as an entry-level medical or insurance coder in a hospital, physician's office, clinic or health maintenance organization.

Program Features & Highlights

This is a four-term, 45.5-credit program. You'll earn a diploma when you complete the program.
The program generally takes 12 months to complete. Begin the program at the start of Fall Term in August.
A "test-out" option is available for the Medical Terminology course.

Upon completion of the program you will:

possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes required of an entry-level medical/insurance coder;
communicate effectively with clients, family and health care team members;
adhere to ethical and legal principles in relation to standards of practice;
demonstrate accountability for professional behavior, development and growth; and
use written documentation that is concise and grammatically correct.

Admission Requirements

A high school diploma or its equivalent
A completed admissions application to IHCC (you can do this online)
COMPASS, ASSET, ACT or SAT score

In addition, students in the Medical/Insurance Coding program will be required to have a Dependent Adult Abuse, Child Abuse and Criminal Background check prior to beginning the clinical/practicum portion of the program.
