How to Start the Pilot Degree - Online

You can begin your 21-month Aviation Pilot Training AAS Degree, completing up to 6 online courses or 17 semester credits of the degree program.

First-Term courses (offered Fall or Spring):

AVI 135-02 Private Basic Ground I 3 credits Syllabus for AVI 135
AVI 190-02 VFR Communications 2 credits Syllabus for AVI 190
AVI 220-02 Aviation Meteorology 3 credits Syllabus for AVI 220

Second-Term courses (offered Winter or Summer):

Starting the program with the online option is easy!

  1. Apply Online and complete an application for the Aviation Pilot Training Program, selecting the "www" online program code.
  2. Check online to see when online registration is open for the Fall or Spring term and register online. Be sure to select the "02" online section of the course(s) you would like to take.
  3. Obtain any books, videos, or software before the course begins. Review the syllabus (available for download above) to see what is required for the course.
  4. If you have any problems with the enrollment process, or need help with anything else, please call 800.726.2585, ext. 4250 and our Chief Ground Instructor, Randy Brookhiser, will give you one-on-one assistance.

Additional items -- such as a medical certificate and positive identification -- will be completed when you continue your coursework at the Ottumwa Airport campus.
