"In November of 2000, Arvin-Meritor announced the closing of the plant in Fairfield, Iowa. Shortly after that, Indian Hills Workforce Development's local representative, Susie Drish, arrived at our plant. With Susie's help, we were able to find out what classes were available and how to implement our funding. Without her help, it would have been a nightmare to get our funding started on our own.
"Many of us, including myself, have been out of school for at least 20 to 30 years. The choice of going back to school and getting our brains in motion was more than a little overwhelming, after years of working on the job. The encouragement and moral support we received gave a large number of us the confidence to start school. After our first term, 90 to 95 % of us were on the President's List or the Dean's List.
"Our representative continues to contact us just to see how we are doing and if we are having any problems that she can help us to solve. ..."
