When Cam Walker became head coach of the Indian Hills Falcons in August 1992, his only previous coaching experience was four years as the pitching coach for the Falcons under Rick Mathews. Since taking over as head coach of the one of the top juco baseball programs in the nation, Walker has compiled some impressive numbers. He has coached seven teams that have qualified for the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado and has amassed over 600 victories in 15 years as head coach of the Falcons. His coaching record was 608-261 heading into the 2008 campaign. That's an average of just over 40 wins per season.
Walker led his club to the JUCO World Series in his inaugural season of 1993. He repeated the feat in 1995, when his club posted a 40-13 record and broke two World Series records. Under Walker's guidance, the Falcons returned to the JUCO World Series in 1996 and 1997, placing fifth in the nation both times. In 1998, Indian Hills had its best World Series finish under Walker, winding up third in the nation. After an absence of four years, the Falcons made back-to-back World Series appearances in 2003 and 2004. The 2004 squad had a 10-game winning streak in the postseason, including wins in its first two games at the World Series, and finished fourth in the tourney.
Walker was named Region XI Coach of the Year in 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2003 and 2004. Six of those years he was also named the ABCA Louisville Slugger Coach of the Year.
Walker's teams have produced more than 60 drafted or signed players. Six of those players have already made it to the major-league level, and others have been placed on 40-man rosters of major league clubs. Numerous other players have graduated or transferred, and gone on to NCAA and NAIA programs throughout the country, furthering their education and baseball careers.
As a player, Walker was a right-handed pitcher who played college baseball at Indian Hills and Western Kentucky University, posting an overall collegiate pitching record of 20-9. In 1982, he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers. Walker was selected to the California League All-Star team while in the Brewers' organization and has two Texas League Championship rings - one he received with the El Paso Diablos in 1986 and the other with the Wichita Pilots in 1987.
Walker's playing career also included international experience. He pitched for the Canadian National Team in the InterContinental Cup and played professionally in Mexico and Europe.
Walker's wife, Kim, is a teacher in the Centerville School District. They have four children: Denver, who is currently a sophomore pitcher for the Falcons, Sara, Tyler and Grant.
