Tom Arnold Scholarships

IHCC alumnus Tom Arnold awards two full scholarships to IHCC students each year. The scholarships award full tuition, fees, required books and required supplies costs for one year (three terms). In addition, if you are a student residing in the dormitories, your room and board costs will be included as part of the scholarship award.

To be eligible for the scholarships, you must compose a brief written piece (500-1,000 words) on this year's subject theme, which is "What is your idea of unconditional love?"

An IHCC faculty committee will screen initial entries and Tom Arnold will choose the final selections himself.

Scholarship Application Guidelines

You must compose a brief written piece (500-1,000 words) following a subject theme set by Tom Arnold. The theme for the 2008-2009 scholarship entries is "What is your idea of unconditional love ?". You should avoid the obscene and exaggerated use of profanities.
The entry must be typed and double-spaced with 1" right-hand, left-hand, and bottom margins. Your piece should begin 2-1/2" down from the top of the page.
Number all pages, including the first page, in the upper right-hand corner. Underneath the page number, type your full initials. DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ANYWHERE ON THE PAGE(S). Staple together the pages of your entry if it includes more than one page. Do not enclose your story in any cover or folder. Attach a separate cover page that includes your name, address, and telephone number for notification.
Mail or submit your entry to Keveen Krieger, Scholarship Coordinator, IHCC Foundation, 525 Grandview Avenue, Building 1, Ottumwa IA 52501. In order to ensure anonymity, your paper will be assigned a number before it is submitted to the Screening Committee. The Screening Committee will eliminate any applications with distracting grammatical, mechanical (spelling and punctuation), and typographical errors from further consideration. Therefore, it is advisable for all applicants to proofread their papers.
The Screening Committee members will disqualify themselves from judging any entry they have previously seen or proofread.
The deadline for submitting all scholarship entries is 4:30 p.m. May 29, 2008. Absolutely no applications will be accepted after this deadline for any reason.
The two scholarship winners will be contacted by the IHCC Foundation Scholarship Coordinator.
Students will retain all rights to their scholarship entries.
Multiple entries are allowed; however, only one application from each student can be sent to Tom Arnold.
