Focus Area: Counseling

CounselingThe Counseling focus area has two main areas of concentration: school guidance counseling or mental health counseling. As a counselor, you will assist people with personal, family, educational, mental health, and career problems. Duties vary greatly depending on your occupational specialty, which is determined by the setting in which you work and the population you serve. School counselors advocate for students and work with other individuals and organizations to promote the academic, career, personal, and social development of children and youth. Mental health counselors work with individuals, families, and groups to address and treat mental and emotional disorders and to promote mental health.
