Indian Hills Community College added women’s soccer to its list of intercollegiate sports in the fall of 2007. Soccer has become increasingly popular at the high school level in Iowa and offering this sport at IHCC gives talented players from across the state and outside of Iowa another option for continuing their education and soccer career.
Indian Hills currently plays its home soccer matches at the Walsh Soccer Complex in Ottumwa. However, that won't be the case for long. The IHCC Board of Trustees has approved plans to build a new soccer field on the Ottumwa campus. The new field will be constructed adjacent to the college's home softball diamond, Hellyer Field, on the east side of campus, just off of Indian Hills Drive.
The field will be installed in the fall of 2011. The first home matches will be played there in the fall of 2012. The Warriors will continue to use the facilities at the Walsh Soccer Complex until the new field is ready for competition.
Opponents for the Warriors include other community colleges from Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota, as well as some junior varsity teams from four-year schools in Iowa.
Tryouts for the team are held in the spring and preseason practice begins in August. The regular season schedule usually starts in late August and the season runs through October, with the postseason regional, district, and national tournaments played in late October and early November.
Doug Seigle, a former college professional soccer player, took over as the head women's soccer coach at Indian Hills prior to the 2010 fall season with an avowed goal of "taking the program to new heights."
