The Indian Hills golf team won the 2011 National Junior College Athletic Association Division I national championship in May, becoming the first “northern” school to ever win the DI title.

Before breaking through to win the crown, the Warriors had finished either second or third at the national tourney seven times in the past 10 years. They have been in the top six for 15 straight seasons and have qualified for the national event 31 consecutive years.

The win validated the Warriors’ preseason No. 1 national ranking and came on the same course in Odessa, Texas, where Indian Hills had won the DI National Championship Preview the previous fall.

The past year proved to be the most dominating golf season in school history, a year in which the Warriors finished first in 11 of 13 tournaments, winning all five invitationals in the fall and their final five events of the spring.

Indian Hills has won one other national championship in golf, taking the Division II title in 2000.

In addition to its team success, Indian Hills has also seen four golfers win the individual national championship. IHCC has had 38 NJCAA All-Americans and 11 Ping All-Americans.

The Warriors’ schedule includes both fall and spring tournaments. The IHCC golf team uses both the Ottumwa Country Club and the Cedar Creek Municipal Course in Ottumwa for practice and home meets.
