Through the American Heart Association we offer both adult and pediatric CPR and First Aid. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP) are also offered through the American Heart Association Training Center.

AHA's Online Course Options!

 The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose.  Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA.  Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the AHA.

Through the American Heart Association we offer a large variety of classes that are listed below.

Note: In order to receive your AHA eCard, a valid email address is required at the time of class. Students who arrive greater than 5 minutes late for class will not be admitted into class. Students arriving later than the allowed 5 minute grace period will not be issued a refund.

 AHA Blended Learning Courses & Hands on Assessments

The American Heart Association offers various courses in a Blended Learning format. These blended learning courses require completion of AHA’s online curriculum followed by successful completion of a hands on assessment with a certified AHA Instructor. Students are expected to come to their hands on assessment prepared; remediation time is not included. Students who are not able to successfully pass the skills assessment will be required to retake their course or find remediation on their own and pay a second appointment fee to complete another hands on assessment at a later date. Hands on assessments are scheduled in a one-on-one format and must be scheduled a minimum of 2 weeks in advance. Combination Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid with Adult, Child & Infant CPR/AED

Heartsaver First Aid class teaches participants to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid to meet job, regulatory or other requirements.  This class will also include adult, child, and infant CPR/AED and teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child and infant victims plus actions for pediatric first aid emergencies until emergency medical services arrive.  AHA course completion eCard issued upon successful completion of skills evaluations.  Pre-registration and a valid email address are REQUIRED for all American Heart Association CPR and/or First Aid classes.

Heartsaver First Aid: Adult - Child - Infant

Heartsaver First Aid teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock, asthma, choking and other first aid emergencies. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion eCard in first aid to meet job, regulatory or other requirements.  AHA course completion eCard issued upon successful completion of skills evaluations. Pre-registration and a valid email address are REQUIRED for all American Heart Association CPR and/or First Aid classes

Heartsaver CPR/AED: Adult - Child - Infant

Heartsaver adult, child, and infant CPR/AED teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child and infant victims.  This course teaches rescue breathing with and without the use of barrier devices.  AHA course completion eCard issued upon successful completion of skills evaluation.  Pre-registration and a valid email address are REQUIRED for all American Heart Association CPR and/or First Aid classes.

BLS 

This course is designed to teach healthcare providers the skills of CPR, AED, and FBAO for victims of all ages.  It is intended for participants who provide care to patients in a wide variety of healthcare settings both in and out of hospital.  AHA course completion eCard issued upon successful completion of written and skills evaluation.  Pre-registration and a valid email address are REQUIRED for all American Heart Association CPR and/or First Aid classes.

BLS Instructor

This course is designed to certify participants to teach BLS according to standards set by the American Heart Association. Pre-requisite: current BLS Provider card.

Prospective students must also:

1) Submit a completed AHA Instructor Application with recommendation of instructor potential by
a current AHA instructor or a member of Training Center Faculty. Applications must be complete and acceptance into a Training Center must be completed prior to course date. Contact [email protected] to request an application.
2) Have completed the AHA Online Essentials course (additional cost @ ahaonline.org) PRIOR to taking the class. Certificate of completion must be brought to class or provided to TC Coordinator prior to course date.
3) Provide a copy of current BLS provider card and photo ID for instructor file.
4) Students are required to have their own Instructor Package (Instructor Manual, Provider Manual & Course Video) for individual use. Students are responsible for obtaining their own corresponding Instructor Package prior to class. This can be purchased from a third party of choice.

An AHA instructor card will be issued upon successful completion of this course and successful course monitoring. Pre-registration is REQUIRED for all American Heart Association CPR and/or First Aid classes.  Online registration is not available for this course due to prerequisite requirements.  If interested in registering for this course, please contact us at [email protected]. 

For all BLS Instructor courses:
Cost: $270.00
*Cost includes course tuition, course monitoring fee & certification card.  Certification card issued upon successful completion of both BLS Instructor course & course monitoring.  Instructor status is not valid until successful course monitoring has been completed with TCC.

The following classes are held on Saturdays 8:00AM - 5:00PM on the Ottumwa Campus in the Rosenman Bldg, room 125. 1/2 hour for lunch on your own.

Heartsaver/BLS Instructor Renewal Opportunity

This class is designed to provide both BLS and Heartsaver instructors an opportunity to complete requirements for instructor renewal. During this course, instructors will be provided any necessary updates as well as be monitored by Training Center Faculty to complete the course monitoring requirement for renewal. Pre-registration is REQUIRED for all American Heart CPR Association and/or First Aid classes.

For all BLS/Heartsaver Instructor Renewal Courses:
Cost: $40.00
*Cost includes all required course materials & an updated instructor card.

The following classes are held on Wednesdays 10:00AM - 12:00PM on the Ottumwa Campus in the Rosenman Bldg, room 120. 


Continuing Education Course Refund Policy:

In order to qualify for a refund, you must cancel your registration at least 3 business days prior to course start.  If you have not prepaid for the class, charges will be assessed to your account if you do not cancel within the required timeframe or if you do not show up for the class you will be charged.  Exceptions will be made only in extreme circumstances.  To cancel a registration, call us at 1-800-346-4413.
