Health Careers Exploration Academy
The Health Careers Exploration Academy is open to high school students currently finishing their sophomore or junior year who are interested in entering a health career.
The Academy will be held July 28 – August 1, 2014, plus three additional days during the following school year.
The focus of the program is to:
- Educate students about careers health care
- Provide guidance and resources in college planning
- Assist students in understanding and seeking financial options for college
- Promote leadership to engage students in their communities
The Academy will expose participants to various health careers including hands–on experiences with medical procedures and equipment. It will provide guidance on college financial options, including information on where to look for and how to apply for scholarships. Participants will go on several field trips including visits to area healthcare facilities and regional medical schools. Students will also participate in a job shadow experience as well as complete a health–related service learning project.
Upon successful completion of the program, participants selected for the Health Career Exploration Academy will earn three semester hours of college credit. There is no cost to the student to attend the Academy. Enrollment is limited. To apply students must complete and submit an application, including a personal essay, and at least one personal reference form. Applications are due July 15, 2014.
