Career Camps: Summer 2013
This summer, Indian Hills Community College is offering several exciting camp opportunities in health occupations, math and science, and technology, for kids of a variety of ages, ranging from those finishing 3rd grade to those finishing 9th grade.

Our traditional health camp is open to students finishing 5th or 6th grade. Campers will participate in hands–on, interactive activities that introduce them to various health careers and professions. The $25 registration fee includes a shirt, meals, and activity items. The camp will be held at the Indian Hills Video Conference Training Center from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Health Exploration Day
June 26 or July 2
Students finishing 3rd or 4th grade will complete activities and experiments related to healthcare and the biological sciences. Each day camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The $25 registration fee includes a shirt, lunch, snacks, and activity items. The camps will be held at the Indian Hills Video Conference Training Center.
This camp is for students finishing 7th or 8th grade. The $25 registration fee includes a shirt, meals, and activity items. Students will learn about and have the opportunity to perform simulated medical procedures and laboratory tests, similar to those performed by actual physicians. The camp will be held at the Indian Hills Video Conference Training Center from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
June 20 and 21
Explore science, technology, math, and engineering while having fun on a college campus! Girls finishing grades 3–5 will have the opportunity to explore college programs through a variety of hands–on activities. They will meet with professional women working in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. This two–day camp will also feature a local industry tour. This camp is funded through a Non–Traditional Careers Grant and there is no cost to participants. Registration is limited to the first 40 students to register. The camp will be held in the Advanced Technology Center on the Indian Hills Ottumwa Campus, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
July 22, 23, 24, and 25
Students finishing grades 7–10 can learn about a variety of technical programs at the Indian Hills Community College Tech Camp. The Tech Camp is broken into a series of one–day camps to match your interests. Each one–day camp will be held in the Advanced Technology Center on the Indian Hills Ottumwa Campus, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The cost of the camp is $40 for all four days. Lunch will be provided each day.
Each day will concentrate on a different program area and feature majors within that program:
- Monday, July 22: Information Technologies
Explore a variety of careers in the computer and information fields. This session includes IHCC's Administrative Assistant, Business Specialist, Computer Networking, Computer Software Development, and Digital Forensics programs.
- Tuesday, July 23: Advanced Manufacturing
Learn how high–end technical equipment is operated and repaired. This session includes Electronic Engineering, Machine Technology, Lasers & Photonics, Renewable Energy, and Robotics & Automation Technology programs.
- Wednesday, July 24: Transportation Technologies
Explore a range of transportation technologies, including Automotive Collision Technology, Automotive Technology, Aviation Technology, Diesel Technology, and Welding.
- Thursday, July 25: Bonus Programs
Bioprocessing/Biofuels Technology, Culinary Arts, Geospatial Technology, Landscape & Turfgrass Technology, and Social Marketing & Technical Graphics programs.

Select “Continuing Education,” on the right. Then, choose “Register and Pay for Continuing Education Classes.” Enter the key word “Camp” (no quotes) in the appropriate field, and click the “Submit” button, at the bottom. Select the camp you would like your child to attend.
