Health Care Provider Courses

EM103V - AHA First Aid

This course provides an introduction to the basic concepts of first aid. Identification and treatment of medical, environmental and injury emergencies will be discussed. This course meets the standards established by the American Heart Association. Credit Hours: 0.5

EM109V - Healthcare Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers)

This course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide basic life support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the healthcare provider level based upon the current American Heart Association guidelines. Credit Hours: 0.5

PALS Provider

This course prepares students to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest, identify strategies for preventing cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children, and perform the cognitive and psychomotor skills for resuscitating and stabilizing infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest. Skills in bag-mask ventilation, management of airway, defibrillation and cardioversion, use of AEDs for children older than 8 years, and rhythm management are emphasized.

ACLS Provider

The ACLS Provider course is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and kills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult VF/VT arrest. Students will manage 10 core ALCS cases that include: respiratory emergency, four types of cardiac arrest, four types of pre-arrest emergencies, and stroke.

Lay Rescuer Courses

Heartsaver AED

This course covers the basic techniques of adult CPR and use of an AED. Students also gain experience in the use of barrier devices in CPR and give first aid for choking in the responsive victim. The four major emergencies (heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest, and foreign body airway obstruction) are discussed.

Heartsaver AED with Pediatric CPR

This course introduces the basic techniques of adult CPR and use of an AED. Pediatric CPR skills may be taught if students live or work in a setting where children are present. The use of barrier devices in CPR and the provision of first aid for choking for responsive adult, child, and infant victims are discussed. The four major emergencies (heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest, and foreign body airway obstruction) are discussed.

Heartsaver First Aid

This course prepares rescuers to effectively recognize and treat adult emergencies in the critical first minutes until emergency medical services personnel arrive. A complete health and safety training solution for first aid, adult CPR, and AED is presented.

Heartsaver CPR

This modular course prepares lay rescuers to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for responsive adult, child, and infant victims. The warning signs of a heart attack and stroke in adults and breathing difficulties in children are discussed. This program teaches rescue breathing with and without the use of barrier devices.

Heartsaver CPR with AED

This course prepares lay rescuers to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child, and infant victims and use of an AED for adult cardiac arrest victims. The warning signs of a heart attack and stroke in adults and breathing difficulties in children are discussed.

Heartsaver CPR in Schools

This course covers adult and pediatric lay rescuer CPR to middle and high school students. Information about the AHA adult and pediatric Chain of Survival, signs of a heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, and choking in adults is presented. Signs of choking in infants and children, prevention of the most common causes of fatal pediatric injuries, and the reduction of risk of sudden infant death syndrome are addressed.

CPR for Family and Friends

This modular course prepares lay rescuers with skills in CPR and relief of foreign body obstruction in the responsive victim. Information about the AHA adult and pediatric Chain of Survival, signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, and choking in adults is presented. Signs of choking in infants and children, prevention of the most common causes of fatal pediatric injuries, and the reduction of risk of sudden infant death syndrome are addressed.
