The IHCC nursing program has two levels:
Practical Nursing
The Practical Nursing program prepares you to function as a nurse who has the knowledge and skills to utilize the nursing process in the provision of care for individuals, families, or communities with basic health care needs. Upon successful completion of the program and graduation requirements, you will receive a diploma in Practical Nursing and be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). IHCC also offers a part-time, evening practical nursing program.
Associate Degree Nursing
The Associate Degree Nursing program builds on the knowledge and skills gained during Level I and focuses on critical thinking, leadership and advanced nursing skills that are required to manage an acute care clinical area and care for individuals, families or communities with complex health care needs. Upon successful completion of the program and graduation requirements, you will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in nursing (ADN) and be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-PN).
Advanced standing students (those who have already completed Level I requirements) are eligible to start the program at the beginning of the fifth term. To qualify for advanced standing, you must meet these requirements:
- Composition I - 3 semester hours
- Introduction to Psychology - 3 semester hours
- Mental Health Nursing I - 1 semester hours
IHCC also offers a part-time, evening associate degree nursing program.
Students in the Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing programs will be required to have a Dependent Adult Abuse, Child Abuse and Criminal Background check prior to beginning the clinical/practicum portion of the program.
