Welding Occupations

Entry: Fall or Spring Term
Length: 4 terms (12 months) with an additional term for pipe welding, if desired
Degree: Diploma

If you're interested in welding as an occupation, this IHCC program is for you. Welding is essential to the expansion and productivity of a vast array of industries. It has become one of the most important inventions in the world and is considered to be the principal means of fabricating and repairing all metal products. It is difficult to imagine an industry today, large or small, which does not involve some type of welding. Skilled welders often work independently and can utilize their skills anywhere in the world.

The Welding Occupations program is a four-term (12-month) diploma program. Term five (pipe welding) is an optional term. You'll spend approximately five hours per day in the lab learning to perform all types of welding processing, including GMAW, GTAW, SMAW and oxy-acetylene. The lab projects include welds required of the State of Iowa's welding and AWS certifications.

This program can be completed during the afternoon and evening hours using facilitated, competency-based instruction. Program completion may vary to accommodate individual needs.
