Each academic year, IHCC offers the commercial driving program in eight weekday sessions and two weekend sesesions. If you choose the weekday classes, you'll have classes and driving Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 4 pm in a six-week session. If you choose the weekend classes, you'll meet Saturdays and Sundays, from 7 am to 5:30 pm, for nine weeks.
You'll have class at our Airport campus, and learn to drive on several miles of hard-surface payment there. Backing docks and a range rodeo are also located there. During the last four weeks of the program, you'll drive over-the-road trips.
Trucks for the program include two conventional and two cab-over style diesel tractors and three trailers - two 48 foot and one 53 foot. The tractors are equipped with nine-, 10- and 13-speed transmissions with Cummins and Detroit engines.
Three instructors, each with many years of over-the-road experience, will guide you through the program. Two instructors conduct the hands-on driving experience, while one takes care of classroom instruction.
Once you've completed this program, we'll work to help you find a job. In fact, several companies actively recruit our students by coming on-site for visits.
You must complete a DOT physical/drug screen before starting or within the first two weeks of the course. If you don't complete the physical/drug screen within this time period, you won't be allowed to continue in the program and tuition is non-refundable.
