Library Databases

The library has a number of online databases available. These databases can be accessed on college computers on both campuses and the eight County Service Centers. All but LexisNexis can be accessed remotely. Please contact the library staff at (641) 683-5199 or library@indianhills.edu for the password information.
In addition to the databases listed, the library has also developed several tutorials that can be used to familiarize yourself with using library and database tools.

Current Students: You can log into MyHills and find password information under the My Services section.

Note: To properly view the video tutorials below, your screen resolution should be 1024 x 768 or higher. Oxford Reference Premium Collection (password required)
Contains 100+ books about 100 dictionary, language reference, and subject reference works published by Oxford University Press. It is a fully-indexed, cross-searchable database of these books.
 
  • CQ Researcher (password required)
    The weekly publication covers the most current and controversial issues of the day with complete summaries, insight into all sides of the issues, bibliographies, and more.
 
EBSCO Periodical Index (password required)
  • EBSCOHost Web
    An online reference offering easy access to a wide variety of popular full text and bibliographic databases.
  • Auto Repair Reference Center
    This database contains information on most major manufacturers of domestic and imported vehicles, with repair information for most vintage makes starting as far back as 1954. Database content includes approximately 25,000 vehicles covered from 1954 to present.
  • EBSCOHost for Children
    Searchasaurus is EBSCO's newest user search experience for elementary and middle school students.
Electric Library (password required)
With the Electric Library, any person can pose a question and launch a comprehensive search through more than 150 full-text newspapers, hundreds and hundreds of full-text magazines, two international newswires, 200,000 classic books, hundreds of maps, and thousands of photographs, as well as major works of literature and art. The Electric Library is updated daily via satellite.
 
Facts.com (password required)
Facts.com answers questions about events, issues, statistics, and people of the last 20 years. It delivers an in-depth feature of "historic events" from the past 60 years on Facts on File.
 
LexisNexis Academic Universe (On-Campus access only)
Provides full-text documents from more than 5,600 news, business, legal, medical, and reference publications. National and regional newspapers, wire services, broadcast transcripts, international news, and non-English language sources. U.S. federal and state case law, codes, regulations, legal news, law reviews, and international legal information.
 
SIRS (Social Issues Resource Series) Knowledge Source (password required)
SIRS Researchers is a general reference database with thousands of full-text articles exploring social, scientific, health, historic, economic, business, political, and global issues. Articles are included from more than 1,500 domestic and international newspapers, magazines, journals, and U.S. government publications.
SIRS Government Reporter is the one source for current and historic government documents; landmark and recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions; information about federal departments, agencies, elected leaders and more.
 
Opposing Viewpoints (password required)
A dynamic online library of current event topics -- the facts, as well as the arguments, or each topic's proponents and detractors.
