Skill–Building courses are available through the Indian Hills Academic Success Centers on both the Ottumwa and Centerville campuses. Skill–Building courses are designed to increase your confidence and abilities in subject areas where you may need some extra help, whether you are preparing to enter one of our academic programs or are already taking courses.
Courses are offered to help you improve your reading, writing, and math. We also have courses for speed–reading, orientation to college, study skills, preparation for advanced mathematics, comprehensive writing skills, English as a Second Language (ESL), and many other areas.
The COMPASS test can help measure your skill levels in reading, writing, and math, giving you the information you need when deciding whether you are ready for an advanced course or need to refresh your knowledge by taking a Skill–Building course. The COMPASS test is provided as a free service and can be taken at the Ottumwa and Centerville campuses, or at any of the eight County Service Centers. More information about the COMPASS test is provided as part of the Indian Hills Admission Process or you may call the Indian Hills Testing Center (phone: (641) 683-5142 or (800) 726-2585, ext. 5142).
