Incubating Main Street
Incubating Main Street is a new initiative designed to help interested communities spur new business growth right in their own town or county. To participate a community must have a group of local citizens who are interested in overseeing the project. Indian Hills staff will collaborate with the group by offering assistance in the areas of strategic project planning and business recruitment/selection. Once the incubator is up and running, Indian Hills staff will continue to be available to offer support services to the business owners through the Small Business Development Center.
The Advanced Technology Center has a wide variety of specialized equipment that may be utilized by citizens who are starting a new business. Interested citizens may apply to use IHCC equipment for personal use for up to one year. (An equipment usage fee will apply.) Due to space restrictions and student need, only equipment in certain program areas is available for use by the public. In order to join the integrated incubation program, a person must have a solid business idea, knowledge of the proper use of the equipment they wish to utilize, and a willingness to meet monthly with the Business Incubation Coordinator.
Razor’s Edge Leadership Series
The Razor’s Edge Leadership Series is geared toward young professionals who would like to learn more about what it means to be a leader in their organization or community, while networking with other young professionals from across the region. The Series typically runs from October through April. Participants meet once a month for four hours. Space is limited. Applicants must be nominated and sponsored by their employers. Self–employed applicants are also welcome to apply. View 2014-2015 Program Brochure
The L.E.A.P. (Leadership, Empowerment, Achievement, Progress) Academy was created in March, 2013 with the goal, “To inspire future leaders who care about the success of the 10–county region and to empower them with the knowledge that they can make a positive difference in what our region can achieve as we move forward.”
The academy is geared toward high school students. Learners enter the program in the spring semester of their junior year and continue through the fall semester of their senior year. The students meet at Indian Hills a total of six times, three times in the spring and three times in the fall. Over the course of the summer, students complete a service project in their community. Every school district in the Indian Hills 10–county region is eligible to send up to three students to participate in the program.
During their on–campus meetings, students engage in a variety of hands–on activities designed to help them develop their leadership skills in the following areas: team building, goal setting, ethics, creativity, communication, handling conflict, problem solving, servant leadership, and leading change.
This program would not be possible without the support of many generous sponsors.
