OTTUMWA --- This year, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) for the first time organized the Ottumwa International Festival. JBS, Community First Credit Union, John Deere, Ottumwa Legacy Foundation, and O! Greater Ottumwa sponsored the event. In despite of the rain, participation was not a problem. People from our community and other nearby cities enjoyed the Mexican and Pilipino food, mariachis, Mexican folkloric dancers, Burmese dancers, Micronesian dancers, Peruvians music, Ottumwa Area Community Chorus, Zumba, magic, and car show.
A big number of local profit and non-profit vendors sold their articles or promoted their services to all participants. Organizers received some giveaways from community businesses, such as El Rancho Grande, La Guadualupana Mexican Store, YMCA, Ashbys, and Indian Hills Community College. Volunteers from LULAC-IHCC Club, IHCC Criminal Justice Club, IHCC International Club, IHCC ELL Center, and Knights of Columbus supervised the security or entertained attendees during the day. It was a colorful day celebrating and embracing our Ottumwa diverse community. Ottumwa LULAC members are very pleased with all the support they got from the community.
