Fine Arts Trips
The Fine Arts Department of Indian Hills Community College offers several exciting excursions throughout the year.
In the past, we have explored Chicago, Minneapolis, Memphis, and St. Louis, among others, visiting historical landmarks and museums, attending shows, and more!

We invite you to travel with us to Chicago, Illinois. We have several events planned for your enjoyment.
Our Chicago adventure begins Friday with a special group dining experience at The ExChequer, famous for authentic Chicago-style pizza. We will then see a theatre performance at the famous Oriental Theatre of Circus 1903. On Saturday we will visit Millennium Park to see Cloud Gate Sculpture (aka "the bean") and the Art Institute of Chicago where you can see well-known painitngs by Van Gogh, Monet, Picasson, and of course the iconic "American Gothic." You will be free during the afternoon to visit some of the sights in downtown Chicago such as the Navy Pier, the Field Museum, and Water Tower Place. In the evening we will see Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre at the Auditorium Theatre. Finally, Sunday we will go to one of the best museums in the world, the Field Museum of Chicago where you can see Dinosaur Sue and exhibits featuring cultures around the world and throughout history.
Your trip escorts will be Instructors:
Dr. Jennifer Boyenga – Director of Fine Arts & Professor of Theatre; Lisa Fritz – Professor of Art; and Dr. Janene Sheldon – Professor of Music.
Trip cost will be $660.00 (includes one credit hour of in–state tuition).
Note: Extra charges apply for more than one hour of credit, out–of–state tuition, single–room occupancy, and other modifications.
One hour of required in-state credit will be included in the cost of the trip.
Out–of–State students must pay the difference between in-state and out–of–state credit.
In–State students opting for a second credit must pay for the additional credit.
Out–of–State students opting for a second credit must pay for the additional credit at the out-of-state credit rate.
Trip Outline and Options
Projected cost of this trip will be $580.00, and will include the following:
- One credit hour of IHCC (in–state) tuition
- Round-trip motor coach transportation, Ottumwa to Chicago
- Harrison Travelodge Hotel, double occupancy for two nights, breakfast included
- Dinner at the ExChequer
- Ticket to the Alivin Ailey
- Ticket to the Circus 1903
- Ticket to the Art Institute of Chicago
- Ticket to the Field Museum
Plenty of free time for shopping and visiting Chicago's many museums and sites, including:
Field Museum of Natural History
Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium
Shopping on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile and Water Tower Place

One college credit (in–state tuition rate) in fine arts or cultural excursion is included in the cost of this trip. You may earn up to two college credits during this trip by completing the requirements/assignments provided by the professors. Each participant, who wishes to earn credit, must register for at least one credit at Indian Hills Community College for the Spring Term 2017:
- DRA–108: Drama Excursions (1 credit hour)
- DRA–109: Drama Excursions II (1 credit hour, prerequisite DRA–108)
- MUS–293: Music Excursions (1 credit hour)
- ART–103: Art Excursions I (1 credit hour)
- ART–104: Art Excursions II (1 credit hour, prerequisite ART–103)

Payment is due in full to the Indian Hills Business Office by 4:30 p.m., March 09, 2017.
As with any other course, tuition and fees will not be refunded after the official drop date for the term.
For the Spring 2017 Term the last day to drop is Tuesday, March 07, 2017.
Registration for Chicago Trip
Online registration is on a first–come, first–served basis, beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.
