Question:

Are internships part of this program?

Answer:

Yes, internship opportunities are an important aspect of our curriculum. You’ll receive 4 credits of course work while gaining job experience as an intern for a business. Most of the time students are paid for their internships similar to normal employment.  Many companies pay around $15/hour.  You also go through normal hiring steps of applying for an internship and interviewing for the position.

 

Question:

Would you explain more about the emphasis areas?

Answer:

When you begin the Computer Software Development program you have the opportunity to choose from four areas of emphasis as part of your degree program: Mobile Application, Web Development, Mainframe Programming, or Computer Science. Each student must complete one area of emphasis, but is free to explore more, if desired.

Do you have scholarships available?

Answer:

Yes, there are various scholarships available.  One scholarship is available for students who will participate in the Computer Programming Club.  An application can be found at

Another popular scholarship for students in this program is the GO TEC scholarship. This scholarship is for students in a STEM program.  An application can be found at .

There are other scholarships available through the Indian Hills Foundation. For example, the Kent Christensen Memorial Scholarship is designated for a computer programming student. An application can be found under Scholarships.


Question:

What type of companies hire graduates of this program?

Answer:

There are a number of businesses that hire our graduates. Many work in the corporate offices.  Some business areas are financial, manufacturing or retail-based.  Often these businesses return from one year to the next to hire additional graduates. Average starting salaries have been above $56,000. Contact us for a list of companies that have hired our graduates and the current average starting salaries.
