What does bioprocessing mean?


Answer:

Bioprocessing is a specific process that uses living cells or their components to obtain desired products.

 

Question:

What kind of job will this degree secure for me?

Answer:

A person who graduates from this program will have the skills to perform basic process quality checks along a production line, and not necessarily research-based laboratory work. Also, the qualifications for obtaining a job in a laboratory are dependent on the company and the industry. Some companies require a bachelor’s degree to work in the lab, while others will simply take proficient applicants. Finally, some industries will aid applicants in obtaining the proper certifications for a lab job, while for others you will have to find your own source of education.

 

Question:

In the bioprocessing field is there a need to pursue higher education beyond the AAS?

Answer:

No, there is not. There are many high paying jobs ($17-$25/per hour), locally, in this discipline. However, if you have a desire to get into company research and development then you should consider continuing your education towards a bachelor’s in Biotechnology.

 

Question:

What sort of products are made in bioprocessing facilities?

Answer:

Fuel ethanol, biodiesel, wine, beer, cheese, seasonings, pharmaceuticals, health supplements, odor eaters, etc. The possibilities are endless!
