Question:

Will the courses required in the education focus from Indian Hills transfer to a 4-year university?

Answer:

Your Associate of Arts degree with a focus in Education will transfer. Each 4-year institution has varying requirements for education core courses. You should contact the education program coordinator at the university(ies) you are thinking of transferring to as early as possible to ensure you are making good choices in scheduling your courses.

Question:

Will I be able to observe in an actual classroom?

Answer:

Yes, in the IHCC Education focus area, observation hours are required.  In many cases, these observation hours are connected to an assignment for a class.  It is a time for you to observe classroom processes and a way to witness education theory in a real-life setting.

Question:

Will I be able to take classes in the discipline that I would like to teach after I have my teaching licensure?

Answer:

Yes, there is an elementary and a secondary path.  In both paths, you have opportunities to complete courses in any area you choose.  So if you want to be a secondary social studies teacher, you can take as many History, Sociology, or Psychology classes IHCC has to offer.
