At Indian Hills Community College, the safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff is a top priority. In addition to support from local law enforcement authorities, the Ottumwa Campus has its own on–campus security. Further, we have incorporated outdoor lighting and high–quality security locks as part of our ongoing efforts toward preventing crime, rather than just reacting to it.
A truly safe campus can only be achieved through the cooperation of all students, faculty, and staff. We encourage everyone to stay alert, aware of their surroundings, report suspicious/dangerous activity to the appropriate authorities, and know how to get help in case of an emergency.
Indian Hills Community College is in compliance with the submittal of crime statistics required by law in Section 485 of the Higher Education Act (also known as the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Act (20 U.S.C. 1092). This information is distributed to all students and staff via the Annual Security Report. This report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain offcampus buildings or property owned or controlled by Indian Hills Community College; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also includes detailed institutional policies concerning campus security, confidential reporting procedures, and related safety issues.
Those identified on campus as responsible for reporting crimes to the Dean of Student Services for admission to the Annual Security Report are IHCC Security officers, the Student Activities Coordinators on the Centerville and Ottumwa campuses, the Athletic Director on the Ottumwa campus, the Director of Housing on both the Ottumwa and Centerville campuses, the Associate Dean of Student/Academic Services, the Dean of the Centerville campus, the Director of Student Health Services, and members of the athletic coaching staffs on both campuses.

In accordance with legal requirements, Indian Hills Community College compiles and publishes crime statistics and an annual report on campus security.
