Community Education Center
Locations
The Community Education Center (CEC) is located in South Ottumwa and provides services including Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED (Certificate of General Educational Development) instruction, literacy programs, adult career supplementary courses, and employment classes.
The CEC houses more than 30 computers and offers wireless Internet access, Microsoft Office, and other educational software programs, 10 laptop computers, a scanner, and a fully equipped education center.
The Center offers classes at no charge, providing instruction for non-English speakers, families with children, individuals without high school diplomas, and others who need foundational training to complete their educational goals. The CEC provides access to the technology and training necessary to allow students to become literate, informed citizens who are competent technology users.
Adult Basic Education
The Adult Basic Education Center (ABE) is also located in the Community Education Center. In addition to teaching essential skills necessary for adults to function in today's society, ABE includes literacy, English as a second language (ESL), high school completion, skill enhancement, and post-high school refresher courses.
